2013年決勝大學英語六級考試聽力必備(3)

  1. W: That picture certainly flatters Sua.

  Don't you think so?

  M: No,I don't.As a matter of face.

I think it makes her look older than she really is.

Q: What does the woman think of the picture?

  2. M: How many students took the exam last Saturday?

  W: Well,let me see.

Fifty had registered, but everyone didin't showed up.

I believe that we had twenty-five from the Middle East and fifteen from Latin America.

Q: How many students did the woman believe had taken the exam?

  3. W:Are these rugs on sale too?

M: No.These are selling at the regular price, four ninety-five.

Q: Can the woman buy a rug?

  4. M: Could you please tell me if the Miami flight will be arriving on time?

W: Yes,sir. It should be arriving in about 10 minutes at hall C.

Q: Where did this conversation most probably take place?

  5. M: Is Paul angry?

  W: I don't think so.

  If he were,he'd tell us.

Q: what does the man think about Paul?

  6. M:Miss Brown bought some paper,paints,and brushes.

W: I'll bet she'll use them at the high school.

Q: What will Miss Brown probably do at the high school?

  7. M: I'd like to cash a check,please.

  I have an account here.

W: Fine.Just make it out to "cash".

Q: Where did this conversation most probably take place?

  8. M: Now,what seems to be the trouble,Mrs.Stephens?

W: I've been very dizzy lately, and last night I had some chest pain.

Q: What is the probable relationship between the two speakers?

  9. M:My briefcase is just like yours, isn't it?

  W: Almost.Mine is smaller,but it doesn't have a lock.

I think I'd rather have had one like yours.

Q: Why would the woman rather have had a briefcase like the one the man has?

  10. W:Hello,Mr.Jacob.

  This is Tim Smith's secretary.

I'm calling to confirm his appointment with you today at two o'clock.

  M: Thank you for calling.

  I'll expect Mr.Smith this afternoon.

  Q: Whose secretary is calling?

  Section B

Arabs consider it(11)-{extremely} bad manner to start talking business immediately.

Even the busiest government official or (12)-{executive} always take

(13)-{extra} time to be polite and offer (14)-{refreshments

No matter how busy you are, you should make time for this (15)-{hospitality}.

Making decisions quickly is not an Arab custom.

There is a (16)-{vagueness} in doing business in the Middle East which will puzzle a (17)-{newcomer

Give yourself lots of time and ask lots of questions.

  Patience is an important(18)-{quality

You may have to wait two or three days to see high-level government officials as they are very bus

  Give yourself enough time.

  Personal relationships are very important

They are the key to do business in Arab countries

(19)-{Try to identify the decision-maker regarding your product or services immediately and get to know him on a friendly basis.

  Do your homework.

Be prepared to discuss details of your product or proposal.

Be ready to answer technical questions}.

When an Arab says yes, he may mean "maybe"

When he says maybe,he probably means "no"

You will seldom get a direct "no" from an Arab because it is considered impolite.

Also,he does not want to close his option.

Instead of "no",he will say "inshalah" which means,"if God is willing"

(20)-{On the other hand,"yes"does not necessarily mean "yes"

A smile and slow nod might seem like an agreement

but in fact, your host is being polite.

An Arab considers it impolite to disagree with a guest}.
